Nike's "shoe dog" history is legendary. Born out of Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight`s VW Van in 1964, Blue Ribbon Sports was a distributing company for Japanese-made running shoes. While business was doing well, Bowerman’s own footwear innovations proved to be more influential, and Nike was born. Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman declared a shoe “must be light, comfortable, and it’s got to go the distance.”
